Maquila Justice
Free Show at the HUB at UW next Thursday, December 6th. Donations are ENCOURAGED.....
Maquiladoras, or otherwise known as "sweatshops", produce much of the clothing we wear today. Many of these factories are located in Guatemala. Very recently, the workers of the only two unions in the garment factories in the nation, Sitracima and Sitrachoi, have been illegally fired and blacklisted by the two employing factories, Cimatexiles and Choishi. Many of the women are single mothers and now struggling to feed their children and themselves. Not only has their livelihood been put in jeopardy, but also union leaders have received death threats for their organizing work.
